According to a report by Punch Newspaper, barely 24 hours after the Ebonyi State Council of Traditional Rulers, led by Eze Charles Mpkuma, threw its weight behind the re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari, the council dumped him, went ahead to ‘adopted’ and assure former Vice President Abubakar Atiku 90 per cent of their people’s votes in the February 16 presidential poll.
Addressing members of the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate’s entourage in the Exco Chamber, the Chairman of the Council of Traditional Rulers, Mkpuma, pointed out that although the monarchs had assured President Buhari that he would get some votes in Ebonyi, the council would vote overwhelming for all PDP candidates.
He said, “We humbly attribute the success achieved so far by our dear governor to your great party, the PDP. Accordingly, we wish to state unequivocally that our state, Ebonyi, is a PDP state and we shall overwhelmingly vote for all PDP candidates. Indeed, not less than 90 per cent of our votes, notwithstanding the fact that we had assured His Excellency, the President that he would get some votes in Ebonyi.”
Meanwhile, President Buhari in his re-election bid has been going about gathering endorsements from traditional rulers in different parts of the country.
However, its barely 15 days to the 2019 general elections, the big question in the minds of Nigerians both home and abroad remains, “who will be Nigeria’s next president”?
In 2015 President Muhammadu Buhari defeated the incumbent, Goodluck Jonathan with over 5 million votes to clinch the Presidency with so much support and expectation from Nigerians and four years after, he is about to slug it out with former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar at the polls come, February 16, 2019. No doubt, this is one election African’s can’t wait for its final result.
